Allyson Perkins DeCanio specializes in personal injury, including catastrophic injuries and wrongful death, with her primary focus on medical malpractice litigation.
Allyson was raised in Texarkana, Texas and graduated from Texas High School in 1982, ranking 5th in a class of 515 students. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology in 1986, graduating magna cum laude from Texas A&M University. She earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from The University of Texas School of Law in 1989 and was admitted to the Texas Bar that same year. She is licensed to practice before all courts of the state of Texas as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas.
Allyson’s law career began as a defense attorney with Groce, Locke and Hebdon in San Antonio, Texas, where she was a member of the personal injury and medical malpractice sections from 1989 – 1992. In 1992, Allyson returned to Austin, Texas, and began working as an associate with Ford & Ferraro, continuing with personal injury defense work, as well as bad-faith litigation. In 1994, Allyson was recruited to Strasburger & Price, L.L.P. in Dallas, Texas, where she represented various hospitals and nursing homes in medical malpractice matters, as well as representing various pharmaceutical companies in medical product and pharmaceutical litigation. Due to her success in these fields, Allyson was sought out to head up the medical malpractice section for Silber Perlman, a Dallas firm representing victims of medical malpractice. In 1999, Allyson made the change from Defense attorney to Plaintiffs’ attorney.
In 2001, Allyson moved to Tyler and formed Perkins, Hawk and Perkins where she represented victims of medical malpractice in the East Texas area. In 2007, Allyson’s firm formed an association with Dobbs & Tittle, P.C. By combining their considerable resources, these two firms have been able to successfully represent numerous clients throughout Texas in cases including medical malpractice, wrongful death in trucking accidents, medical product and pharmaceutical injuries, and other major personal injury matters.
Allyson is married to Mike DeCanio, a captain for Southwest Airlines. Mike and Allyson share their home with 6 dogs, 3 horses and a mule. They are also the founders and operators of a non-profit horse rescue organization located in Ben Wheeler, Texas called The Pegasus Project, Inc.. Allyson and Mike dedicate all of their spare time to making the world a better place for neglected and abused horses in East Texas.
